Learning the basic tools

Learning the Tools toolbar can help speed up your track building time.

 

In this version, two new tools have been introduced that you can utilize to enhance your workflow.

variable hit velocity button
Variable Hit: Toggles between constant velocity and variable hit velocity.
constant hit velocity
Constant hit velocity: Newly added hits will have a velocity of the set value.

Variable hit velocity: When Variable Hit velocity is enabled the min and max box's will become visible. Newly added hits will have a random velocity between the min and max values.
hit tool
 
Hit tool: "[H] key" Used for adding hits in the Event panel.

Hold down the left mouse button when adding a hit. Keep holding the mouse button down. After a moment your mouse cursor will change to a draw tool, you will then be able to draw hits on the grid.
velocity tool
 
Velocity tool: "[V] key" - Used for changing a single hit velocity. Left-click on a hit you want to change then drag your mouse up or down to set the new velocity. The Controller panel can also be used to adjust hit velocities.
pan tool
Pan tool: "[P] key" - Used for changing a single hit pan. Left-click on a hit you want to change then drag your mouse left or right to set the new pan value. The Controller panel can also be used to adjust hit pans.
nudge tool
 
Nudge tool: "[N] key" - The Nudge tool allows you to move hits along the grid.

With the Nudge tool selected left-click on a hit you want to move then drag the hit left or right. The selected hit will be highlighted in green
. If Snap to Grid is enabled the hit will snap to the division set on the Quantize toolbar. Disabling this option will allow you to move the hit freely. You can also use your keyboard left / right arrow keys to move the selected hit. The tick will also be displayed next to the hit. See Understanding Pulses per quarter note.
eraser tool
 
Eraser tool: "[E] key" - Used for erasing hits. You can also left-click + Ctrl key to delete hits. Right-clicking on a hit while holding the Ctrl key will delete hits acting as the Eraser tool.

The selection tool can also be used to delete multiple hits.

Selection tool "[S] Key" - Used to select hits. Left-click then drag the mouse over the hits you want to select. Hold down the Ctrl Key while left-clicking to select or deselect individual hits. With the Selection tool you can cut, copy and delete hits. You can also use the Selection tool to select specific hits and edit properties with the Controller panel.
Use the delete key to delete selected hits.
length-tool
 
Length tool "[L] key" - Used to adjust the playback length of a single hit. Left-click on the hit you want to change then drag your mouse up or down to set the playback length. The Length view can also be used to adjust playback length.

Accessing the quick tools menu:

Right-click on the Event panel to select a tool from a list.
