Controller panel - Velocity view

The Velocity view lets you easily adjust velocity levels for any hit.

To display hit velocities right-click on the Controller panel then select Velocity View from the menu.

You have the option to apply velocity changes to All samples or Groups only. Select one of the options from the menu above or click the All Samples/Groups Toggle button.

Velocity can be applied to:

 

• All hits.

• Hits that fall on certain divisions.

• Hits that do not fall on any division i.e. "Non Divisions". 

Velocity All

 

When All samples is enabled, velocity will be applied to all hits in the pattern. When Groups is enabled velocity will be applied to all hits for the selected group.

To apply velocity left-click on the control labeled "V" then drag your mouse up or down.

Compress/Expand All: Applies velocity to all hits.
When All samples is enabled changes will be applied to all hits. When Groups is enabled changes will be applied to all hits in a pattern for the selected group.

To Compressed/Expanded all hit velocities left-click the control labeled "C".
then drag your mouse up or down.

Velocity Divisions

 

You can change velocities for all hits that fall only on a division line. The current grid division can be changed using the Quantize toolbar. See selecting a grid division.

To apply velocity to all hits on division lines, left-click on one of the controls labeled "V" or "C".
then drag your mouse up or down.

Alt / Non Divisions

 

Velocities can be applied to hits on alternate divisions or hits that do not fall on a division line. To apply velocity to alt/non divisions, right-click on one of the controls labeled [V */*]  or [C */*] then drag your mouse up or down. The current division can be changed on the Quantize toolbar.

On division lines: Left-click [V 1/4] with quarter notes

Alternate divisions: Right-click [V 1/4] with quarter notes

Alt/Non divisions: Right-click [V 1/4] with eight notes

Velocity and the Selection tool

Use the Selection Tool from the Tools Toolbar to select hits. Hold the Ctrl key while left-clicking to select specific hits.

Note: When using the Selection tool the Groups toggle button will be ignored.

Edit velocity manually

To edit velocities manually left click on the Controller panel on the right then drag your mouse. If Groups is enabled then you will need to select a group in your drum kit.

The Velocity Tool from the Tools Toolbar can also be used to adjust hit velocities.

To Display velocity levels on hits in the Event panel click the Show/Hide Hit Velocity button from the View toolbar. See Setting the view.

Random Velocity

To set a random velocity left-click on the Random Velocity control then drag your mouse up and down. You can also double-click on the Random velocity value box to type a value. Random velocity ranges from 0 to 100 in percentage.

Once you have set a random value use the Velocity and Compress/Expand controls to randomize velocities.

Controller Lock Velocity

Use the Controller Lock to set hit velocity levels to the same value.

When All samples is enabled changes will be applied to all hits. When Groups is enabled changes will be applied to all hits in a pattern for the selected group.
